The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is one of the automaker's most-anticipated new cars coming out for the 2015 model year, and if there wasn't already enough buzz about its arrival, racecar driver Mark Higgins has just given the world fresh news about the car to boast about. In a recent timed run on the Isle of Man TT Course, Higgins was able to break his lap record of 116.470 MPH and time of 19:26, which was just set a week prior. With the help of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI, Higgins clocked in with an average speed of 117.510 MPH and a time of 19 minutes, beating his own record and demolishing the previous 115.36 MPH record set in 2011.
Still adjusting to the new Subaru WRX STI, Higgins had a few difficulties during his initial run on the Isle of Man course a week prior, but he knew he could get more out of the car and was determined to make it happen. Luckily for him, he was able to get the final run he so badly wanted and was thrilled to surpass the previously set lap records in the process.
"I am really happy to beat the lap records set by John McGuiness in the Zero Bikes and the sidecar lap record as John was riding me about that," said Higgins. "I can't say enough about the new WRX STI and how much abuse it has taken as we have really ridden it hard over this course for three very fast runs and this is definitely not an easy course. The chassis on this new car is just night and day."
A U.S.-spec version of the WRX STI, Higgins' car featured many stock options aside from its roll cage, harness, racing seat, Dunlop Direzza tires, high decibel straight exhaust, modified springs/dampers and fire suppression system. The 2015 WRX STI in Springfield is not yet available at dealerships, but you can find the WRX, WRX Limited and WRX Premium at Reliable Subaru now.
