The Subaru WRX and WRX STI arrive on the scene with a host of fresh features for the 2018 model year. Styling upgrades, new safety technologies and updated performance components on the STI model take the WRX to new heights. On the exterior, the WRX receives a more aggressive front end this year. Its lower grille opening has been enlarged, and on the Limited and STI models, restyled LED Steering Responsive Headlights make their debut. As always, the WRX is offered in four models: base, Premium, Limited, STI and STI Limited. Across the lineup, a variety of features have been added for 2018. The first being a Performance Package option for WRX Premium, which comes with JURID brake pads, Recaro front seats, an 8-way power driver's seat and red brake calipers. The moonroof has also been removed to reduce weight.
The powerful WRX STI gains 19-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded Brembo Performance Brake System, new brake pads and an updated DCCD system that now uses electronic control to deliver a quicker response. Recaro seats are also now available on the STI, providing a sportier look.
The base engine featured on the 2018 Subaru WRX in Springfield is a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder, offering 268 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. Backed by a six-speed manual, the powerplant provides top performance on the all-wheel drive vehicle.
On the STI, buyers will find a 2.5L turbo engine that's capable of delivering 305 horsepower and 290 lb.-ft. of torque. Also paired with all-wheel drive, the engine does not disappoint.
Buyers of the WRX Limited will now get to take advantage of Vehicle Hold and EyeSight Assist Monitor, which have been added to the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology package. The latter system uses LED indicators to provide EyeSight information on the windshield, reducing distracted driving.
