Subaru is excited to announce that the 2025 Subaru Forester, one of the company’s flagship models, has earned the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. This recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) highlights the Forester’s state-of-the-art safety features and commitment to protecting drivers and passengers.
This achievement is particularly significant for Subaru and the Forester, as the IIHS updated its vehicle safety criteria in 2024, introducing stricter standards for side-impact protection, moderate front overlap, and pedestrian crash avoidance tests. The 2025 Forester excelled under these rigorous new standards, earning a “Good” rating for the pedestrian crash prevention test and meeting or exceeding requirements in all other safety categories. As a result, the Forester secured the highest “Top Safety Pick+” rating, thanks to its advanced crash prevention and accident mitigation technologies. Notably, this award continues a longstanding tradition of excellence, with the Forester having earned an IIHS Top Safety Award 18 times since 2007—more than any other small SUV.
Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc., praised the Forester’s continued success, emphasizing the company’s dedication to building vehicles with the most advanced safety features. Walters noted that the 2025 Forester not only sets a high standard but also reinforces what customers have come to expect from Subaru—a global leader in vehicle safety. Since 2013, Subaru has earned more IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards than any other automaker, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.
IIHS Safety Test Criteria
To earn an IIHS safety award, vehicles must meet stringent testing requirements. These include receiving a “Good” rating in side crash tests and front overlap tests, as well as an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating in pedestrian crash avoidance tests. Additionally, all trim levels must feature headlights that achieve an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating, and the vehicle must demonstrate strong performance in moderate front-end crash scenarios.
