Subaru recently reached a new milestone. The Japanese automaker has officially built its 3 millionth car in America. Achieved on July 28, 2016, the lucky car was none other than a Lapis Blue Pearl Outback – one of Subaru’s most popular U.S. models.

The 3 millionth Subaru to roll off the assembly line was produced at the company’s factory located in Lafayette, Indiana. Open since 1989, the factory was initially shared with Isuzu, but it wasn't long before Subaru completely took over the facility and made it their own. While the Outback was the 3 millionth model to be developed at the factory, it wasn’t the first nameplate go into production at the plant. Subaru originally produced Legacy models at the facility before adding Baja, Outback and Tribeca vehicles into the mix later on.

With demand for Subarus on the rise, the automaker has plans to produce even more cars at the factory, increasing output from 218,000 to 436,000 units by spring of 2019. Impreza models will be produced at the facility before the start of 2017 and a new three-row crossover will be go into production there in 2018.
