It’s that time of year again to get ready to attend the annual Ozark Folklife Festival. On Saturday, Oct. 1, hundreds of locals and visitors will gather from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate our heritage and culture at this one-of-a-kind event. Held on the lush grounds surrounding the Buffalo National River, located at 170 Ranger Road in St. Joe, Arkansas, you’re sure to love everything that this signature affair has to offer.
Visitors will get to see what life was like for people who lived in the area during the mid 1800s and early 1900s. There will be several demonstrations and displays in the Tyler Bend Campground, including a lye soap maker, folk dancers, storytellers, a blacksmith, a logging/sawing exhibit, dairy goat milking and much more.
Enjoy folksy music throughout the day at the Tyler Bend Amphitheater, where you can check out bands and musicians like Nathan Dodds, Possum Juice and Rackensack.
And there will be plenty of food for you to indulge in. Fried catfish, hushpuppies, pulled pork sandwiches, beans, ham and cornbread are just some of the many traditional southern eats that will be made available for purchase. Plus, to satisfy your sweet tooth, strawberry shortcake, chocolate rolls and Loblolly ice cream will also be offered.
