Many people find winter a tough time of the year because of the cold and snow conditions. Not only do you need to take care of yourself, but your vehicle also needs to be maintained so that it can overcome the challenges brought by harsh weather. Check out these auto maintenance measures so you will know what should be done:

1 Test Battery Condition

Cold weather may affect the car battery and cause it to work at a lower level. You should test your car's battery if you notice it is not working well or has started to drain quickly. First, use a voltmeter to check its voltage. If it reads 12.2 volts or more, the battery is still fine. However, if it is below 12.2 volts, the battery needs to be replaced.

2 Check Antifreeze Levels

Your car's antifreeze levels should be checked regularly to ensure that they are adequate for cold weather operations. The antifreeze helps keep the engine from freezing and protects other critical components.

3 Check Wheel Alignment And Tire Pressure

The way your car drives in winter can greatly depend on its wheel alignment and tire pressure. If the tires are not properly aligned, the car will not handle or stop well, even on a dry road. As for tire pressure, you should keep it at a standard level to ensure that you have a safe drive every time.

4 Turn to Winter Tires

If you get stuck in the snow or skid off the road, it will be your tires that will hold you back from getting out of a dangerous situation. You should check if your car's original performance tires are adequate for winter conditions. If they don't have enough treads and cannot provide enough traction in these circumstances, you might want to switch to winter tires.

5 Check Fluids And Lubricants

Make sure to check for any leaks or drips because water can turn into ice and cause problems for your car. You should also check the oil because it will be thicker in cold weather, so you need to have more of it.

6 Add a Windshield Washer Fluid

Ensure that your car has windshield washer fluid that is effective in cold weather. The fluid will help clear the windshield of snow and ice, which can become a big problem when driving.

Auto maintenance is important all year round, but it's especially crucial during winter when the weather can be harsh on your car. Make sure to follow these tips to keep your car running smoothly and safely. If you're not confident in doing the maintenance yourself, take it to our dealership to have it winterized.
